Chris Bloomer

President and CEO, Canadian Energy Pipeline Association

Chris has over 30 years of experience in the domestic and international energy business. Prior to this role, he spent three years as the Chief Executive Officer and Director at Connacher Oil and Gas Ltd. Prior to that he spent 10 years as an executive with Petrobank Energy and Resources providing leadership throughout Petrobank’s corporate evolution. He has held the roles of Vice President Heavy Oil, Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer and Director.

Chris began his career at Shell Canada and moved with increasing responsibility from exploration to economics and corporate planning, oil sands development, oil sands operations and marketing. By the time he left Shell he was Director, Liquids Business Centre, responsible for crude oil and NGL marketing and business development.

Following his tenure at Shell he was Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Castel Energy, a NASDAQ listed company, responsible for its Canadian crude oil marketing business and its US exploration, natural gas production and pipelines. Subsequently, Chris was Founder, President and Chief Operating Office at Talon Resources Ltd. a TSX-V listed company, a Latin America midstream energy project development and crude oil marketing operation. After this, Chris spent five years as a Senior Client Partner at Korn/Kerry.

Chris has also served on Canadian public energy company boards and is a member of The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA).

Kevin Birn

Senior Director, IHS Energy

​Kevin serves on the IHS North American Crude Oil Markets team and leads the IHS Energy Oil Sands Dialogue. His expertise includes Canadian oil sands development, oil sands cost and competitiveness, Canadian pipelines infrastructure, crude oil markets, crude-by-rail, crude oil life-cycle analysis and Canadian energy policy. Prior to joining IHS, Mr. Birn held various senior advisor positions with the Government of Canada at the Department of Natural Resources. During his time at Natural Resources, he was involved in a range of energy issues, such as oil and gas market analysis, oil market access, energy modelling, Aboriginal consultation and federal oil sands policy. Mr. Birn has contributed to numerous government and international collaborative research efforts including the 2011 National Petroleum Council report Prudent Development of Natural Gas & Oil Resources for the US Secretary of Energy. He holds an undergraduate degree in Business and a graduate degree in Economics from the University of Alberta, Canada.​

Gregor Jeffrey

Gregor Jeffrey is a professional speaker and facilitator and the founder of Jeffrey Strategic. His innovative, neuroscience-based approach has helped thousands of executives, leaders and business professionals to attain high performance through effective communication.

After starting his career in the Canadian defence sector in Calgary, Gregor Jeffrey worked in Vancouver’s emerging high-tech sector and California’s Silicon Valley. Returning to the defence industry as a consultant for the General Dynamics Corporation in Europe, he supported and led international teams on multi-billion dollar equipment programs for the UK Ministry of Defence.

In Paris, France he founded a consulting firm that helped specialized suppliers secure opportunities with European defence contractors. A specialist on military technology trends, Gregor supported international investors as a senior defence industry advisor with Standard & Poor’s. Following projects in Spain, Germany and England he returned to Calgary to lead the Department of National Defence Integrated Soldier System Project and negotiated Raytheon Canada’s first international teaming agreements with French and Israeli defence contractors.

Gregor’s experiences delivering high-profile proposals and presentations in the international defence sector led him to develop unique training to help executives, leaders and employees of all levels excel at communicating in complex corporate environments. He is an executive lecturer at the Alberta School of Business and the Edwards School of Business and speaks regularly at TEC Executive Forums, MacKay CEO Forums and leading organizations across North America.

Gregor lives in Calgary, Alberta. He is a proud supporter of the Kids Cancer Care Foundation of Alberta and a passionate classic motorsports enthusiast.
